Las Vegas is a city of sin, yes, but it can also be a city of romance. There are several romantic activities to do in Sin City – or for this article shall we call it Romance City? – and we have put together our top 10 list of cool and unique things for couples to do when in Las Vegas.
Few things in Vegas are as romantic as taking a couples’ gondola ride through the canals at the Venetian hotel. You go under bridges and past people dining at the cafes. There are special romance packages available and even wedding packages. The gondolas operate daily from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tickets are $39 per person and are available at gondola booths both outside and inside the hotel and on-line at the hotel’s website. Be sure and tip your gondolier!
Where else in Vegas can you get in a helicopter and go on a romantic adventure? Not many places to be sure and here it’s one of the top romantic things to do in Vegas. Rides go over the Strip at night and over the Grand Canyon by day. Packages can accommodate couples looking for a romantic flight. Four helicopter companies are Maverick Helicopters, 5-Star Vegas Helicopter Tours, Skyline Helicopters, and GC Flight.
Las Vegas’ hotels have excellent spa facilities. Look into getting a massage or other mind-soothing therapy. Check with your hotel to see what is has to offer for couples. One of the top romantic massage and therapy spots for couples is the couples day spa at Canyon Ranch Spa in the Venetian.
Naturally, a romantic dinner is in the cards for couples while in Vegas. Here’s a list of some of the city’s most romantic restaurants: Eiffel Tower Restaurant, Paris hotel; Mizumi at Wynn (request a private cabana overlooking the Japanese gardens surrounding an koi pond and its 90-foot waterfall); Restaurant Guy Savoy in Augustus Tower at Caesars Palace; the Nomad Library in the Rio and Michael’s Gourmet Room at South Point.
The High Roller is the observation wheel at the Linq hotel that rises to 550 feet with spectacular views of the Strip. The rotation lasts about 30 minutes and you can take drinks with you (champagne anyone!?) Tickets, which can be purchased on the High Roller website, are $23.50 until 5 p.m., and $34.75 after 5. Like the gondola there are wedding packages.
A spectacular water show takes place throughout the day and night in front of the Bellagio hotel at its massive fountain. The shows are set to music, and this makes for a “Vegas only” romantic experience. It’s also legal to drink outside in Vegas so get some champagne to really step up the romance. Just walk up and take in the show. A great time to do this is at sunset or early in the evening before having a romantic dinner.
Vegas has all kind of shows. There are long-running performances, concerts, nationally-known musicians and magicians. A few romantic show suggestions are O by Cirque dy Soleil at Bellagio; Blue Man Group at the Luxor; David Copperfield at MGM Grand; the Tournament of Kings dinner show (think jousting and Medieval games) at Excalibur and a musical experience that features songs perfumed by Vegas legends Elvis, the Rat Pack, Tom Jones and more called VEGAS! THE SHOW, at Planet Hollywood.
AREA15, a multi-entertainment and bar complex (it’s off the Strip and not in a hotel) that has all kinds of fun couples activities, including a Zip Line. In fact, Paris Hilton rode on it for an episode of “Paris In Love.” Other activities there include ax throwing (just not at each other please), golf simulators and an arcade room.
Just outside of Vegas in Boulder City near Hoover Dam is a unique experience: exhilarating, guided excursions in two-seat rail bikes along the same tracks used during construction of the dam. Tours include the Southwest Round-Up; an 8-mile round trip tour, the Southwest Ramble; a scenic daytime rail bike ride which includes a trip on a historic train; the Desert Sunset Tour, a picturesque ride in the evening as the sun sets behind the River Mountains; the Fireside Starlight Ride, which is a very romantic experience featuring personal fire pits under desert sky and the Night Lights Tour. Rail bikes are motorized and the price for two is $110.
Las Vegas has several museums that are true “Vegas.” Three recommended ones are the Mob Museum, the Neon Museum and the National Atomic Testing Museum. Did you know a big Vegas attraction in the ‘50s was watching testing of nuclear bombs, which occurred in the desert outside of the city?
