Strip Closures & Getting Around on NYE in Vegas

Las Vegas is the place to be for New Year’s Eve, and every year the Strip turns into one massive pedestrian party. With fireworks, live entertainment, and thousands of people celebrating, the energy is unmatched — but so are the traffic and road restrictions.

If you’re planning to ring in the new year on the Strip, it’s important to understand the NYE road closures and the best ways to get around. Here’s your updated guide to navigating Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve, so you can party without the stress.

Strip Closures NYE

The Las Vegas Strip will shut down to traffic:

  • The I-15 exit ramps at Flamingo will be closed at 5:30 p.m. in both directions.
  • Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed from Spring Mountain Road to TropicanaAvenue, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Strip will be completely closed to all vehicle traffic from 8 p.m.

Expect closures to last until the early morning hours of January 1. Plan ahead and give yourself enough time to get to your destination! For real-time information about road closures, follow the LVMPD on social media.

Tips for Getting Around

  • The Las Vegas Monorail is the easiest and most reliable way to move up and down the Strip on New Year’s Eve. In fact, it’s the only form of public transportation operating directly along the Strip that night. Stops include MGM Grand, Flamingo, Horseshoe (formerly Bally’s), Harrah’s/The LINQ, and Sahara — perfect for hopping between major hotels and events.
  • Use Rideshare (With Patience): Uber and Lyft will have designated NYE pick-up and drop-off zones. Expect routes to use Koval Lane and Frank Sinatra Drive due to Strip closures. Surge pricing, heavier traffic, and longer wait times are extremely common on New Year’s Eve, so plan accordingly.
  • Park Early: If you’re driving, arrive well before road closures go into effect and leave your car at a hotel or parking garage for the night. Keep in mind that after midnight, there will be significant congestion leaving any parking structure.
  • Know the Safety Rules: Alcohol is allowed on the Strip in plastic containers only — no glass bottles or cans. Be prepared for very large crowds, follow police instructions, and give yourself extra time to move between locations.
