The annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will make its long-awaited return in April 2022 for two weekends: April 15-17 and April 22-24. The first weekend is usually more popular and exciting because of the surprise elements since it’s the first time you see all the sets. Here are the event dates to take note of:
Harry Styles will open on the weekends on April 15 and 22. Expect a stream of talented performances by Phoebe Bridgers, Carly Rae Jepsen, Princess Nokia, Big Sean, and Daniel Caesar, among others.
Billie Eilish will take the stage as the headliner on April 16 and 23. At 20 years old, she’s set to be the youngest performer in the festival’s history! Other artists who’ll take the stage earlier are Anitta, Megan Thee Stallion, Brockhampton, Flume, Arlo Parks, Holly Humberstone, Steve Lacy, Floating Points, Giveon, Disclosure, Koffee, and Hot Chip.
Kanye West will close the weekends on April 17 and 24. Other performers on these dates are Jamie XX, Fatboy Slim, Doja Cat, Honey Dijon, Duke Dumont, Sampa the Great, Maggie Rogers, Orville Peck, Joji, and Dave. Swedish House Mafia is also expected to perform!
The Coachella festival will take place at the world-class Empire Polo Club grounds in Indio, California. This riverside city in Coachella Valley is about a three-hour drive from Los Angeles city. This Colorado desert is prone to extreme temperature fluctuations between hot days and chilly nights. Hence, if you’re a heat- or cold-sensitive person, take appropriate precautions before venturing to the location.
Coachella is the biggest stage that draws the largest crowds. It features the biggest headliners and has the best stage production equipped with excellent sound systems. With huge speakers that send out music throughout the festival grounds, it has the most happenings among all the stages.
This is the second biggest stage located to the right of the Coachella main stage. Since it doesn’t have a shade, it’s the best area to catch an amazing sunset.
Curated by Lightning in a Bottle, this stage is bright and colorful, giving off an exciting vibe. Equipped with a contoured rainbow canopy, this is the best place to seek refuge from the heat. This stage hosts smaller artists and emerging DJs with genres such as bass-heavy and trap music.
Sahara is a huge hangar tent that mainly features EDM and hip-hop artists. With quirky stage designs and laser lights, it has the biggest production of all the tents.
Mojave is the second largest tent that’s generally not teeming with crowds unless a very popular artist is playing. It features indie rock bands and known emerging artists.
This tent features smaller emerging artists, and it’s rarely crowded. The existing crowd is usually hardcore fans of the artists performing. Hence, if you’re in search of some relaxing space to lounge in and escape the crowd, this place is perfect.
Yuma is a small air-conditioned indoor tent that features underground EDM. Although it usually has a line and a limited capacity, it’s a great spot to get out of the heat since it’s a fully enclosed space. The tent has a sharp sound system and a nice club vibe!
Sonora is an air-conditioned tent that features Latin music with a dose of punk rock. It’s one of the best places to breathe for a while—simply listen and just relax.
This indoor dome features a 360-degree screen for immersive videos! Shows last for 10-20 minutes each. Since it usually has a line and a limited capacity, it’s best to visit the dome at the very beginning, before the headliners perform.
Palm Springs is one of the best places to stay because it offers several options and an airport for increased convenience. You also get on-site camping options but remember that it can get extremely hot during the day.
